I was working in Abilene this week, so I drove up to Anson Texas one afternoon.
On the Northwest corner of the town Circle there is an old hardware that closed at least 15 or 20 years ago, maybe longer ago.
The roof of the building has caved in so it is not safe to enter the building.
You can still see the tools and paint cans left right on the shelf or display case.
This is the type of hardware store that I remember going to when I was a kid.
This old store is right next door to the sheriffs office, but I do find it amazing that nobody has broken in and stolen any of the tools.
If they ever can fix the roof, I hope that they can preserve the store as a museum.

MiceAge

I love Disney, but not all things Disney.
What I love most is the parks, well really one park Disneyland.
It's the only Disney park that I have been to.
I enjoy going there with the family, and I love the history.

I especially love the magic of how it is built.
I remember as a kid wondering how they could fit all of those scenes below New Orleans Square.
There is a site with lots of Disney Fanatics on it called MiceAge, or MiceChat
I pretty much stick to the posts about Disneyland Resort
Some of the posts are funny, and there is a ton of information there and amazingly talented individuals.
One member is building a Virtual Disneyland, but the best part is that it includes all of the backstage buildings.

Bogie

I didn't know that the wheel sets on a rail car were called Bogies.
There are a lot of different designs.
Some of them are pretty high tech.
Even some Model sites with lots of pictures like this Australian site.

I also thought that a Bogey in Golf was named after Humphrey Bogart, but alas, that is not the case either.

Here are the Highest points in the U.S. by State.
I always knew that Mt Whitney is the highest point in the 48 contiguous states, but there are quite a few states that are close 2nd.
The graph really does show how much higher Mt. McKinley is than all of the rest.

When I was a very young child we took a train ride back to St Louis from Anaheim (Los Angeles)
I was about 7, or 8, but I vividly remember riding in the Dome car.
Here is a site that has some great pictures from those days.

I don't hate Harley's.
I love Custom Bikes.
American Chopper is one of my favorite shows.
I can't stand the way that so many people put the stupid straight pipes on their Harley's, and then insist on revving them incessantly.

Right now they have a back to school logo.
If you click on it, the link goes to their back to school guide, so it is completely self promoting, but I like it anyway.
At the time of this post, Google's logo is standard.

People I need to Thank

My friend that I have coached Little League for the past couple of years has been deployed to Afghanistan.
He sent some photos and some really great commentary.

... We gathered up our personnel, careful to take a headcount, with the kids gathering around and continuing to seek candy or treats as we left, as seen in the attached picture (035). We continued south for another 10 km to the village of Mangwal to inspect a Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) water well and hillside water storage project that will be used to provide water pressure to the village. Few convoys had ventured south of Khas Kunar before and as we passed through several villages on the way the local Afghanis came out to see us as if we were a big parade on the Fourth of July. I snapped the attached picture (037) of two girls watching us from the roof top of their dried mud constructed home. The other type of home that the locals build is made of stones, that are plentiful everywhere here, dry stacked together. (See picture 001)...

While at the Sarkani BP Station we came across a spider monkey that the BP guards kept as a pet tied up to a tree. He was small, no more than a foot and half tall, and cute. When we approached him close enough for him to reach us he jumped on my leg and started digging through the pockets in my ACU pants. Son of a gun was looking for candy and he knew exactly where to look to find a piece (see pic 003 where the monkey was going through Chiefs pocket). I gave him a piece and he was quite thrilled with his prize. It was a good laugh and nice respite from the days work.
