Even a tutorial on how to make your own.

Amphicar
One of my all time favorites. The Amphicar.
I didn't know that Lyndon Johnson had an Amphicar.
I was perusing this site on Presidential Limousines, and they noted that "LBJ used to love to scare unsuspecting guests by driving into the water."

EpochTime

Its getting closer!
Eventually it will read 1234567890! (Friday, February 13th 2009, 23:31:30 UTC)
Good thing someone built a counter.
Here it is.
What the heck is Epoch time anyhow?
"The Unix epoch is the time 00:00:00 UTC on January 1, 1970."
Of course Excel uses the number of days since 1/1/1900, so the Excel date code of 123456789 won't be here until 03/16/12233. Probably not gonna make that one.

Motorcycle of the Month

Hubless Monster
I really like the look of this.
It took me a while to figure out how the drive works.
Its friction driven, so there is a smaller drive wheel in between the back wheel and the rear wheel.
Like a Ferris wheel.
According to Amen design's Milestone page, it's 5 years old.

Store Bought Cookies

Yahoo has this article on store bought Cookies.
I think that most of these are horrible, but I would like to try some of the higher ones on the list.
I have to admit, Rita Mauceri and Elycia Rubin are easy on the eyes.

More Hardware Store Pics

I found the pictures that I took of the Hardware store in Anson.
These were taken in March of 2005, almost three years ago.
You can see that a few more of the upper windows have been broken, but the inside of the building is pretty much the same.

George Moss Hardware
I was working in Abilene this week, so I drove up to Anson Texas one afternoon.
On the Northwest corner of the town Circle there is an old hardware that closed at least 15 or 20 years ago, maybe longer ago.
The roof of the building has caved in so it is not safe to enter the building.
You can still see the tools and paint cans left right on the shelf or display case.
This is the type of hardware store that I remember going to when I was a kid.
This old store is right next door to the sheriffs office, but I do find it amazing that nobody has broken in and stolen any of the tools.
If they ever can fix the roof, I hope that they can preserve the store as a museum.

MiceAge

I love Disney, but not all things Disney.
What I love most is the parks, well really one park Disneyland.
It's the only Disney park that I have been to.
I enjoy going there with the family, and I love the history.
I especially love the magic of how it is built.
I remember as a kid wondering how they could fit all of those scenes below New Orleans Square.
There is a site with lots of Disney Fanatics on it called MiceAge, or MiceChat
I pretty much stick to the posts about Disneyland Resort
Some of the posts are funny, and there is a ton of information there and amazingly talented individuals.
One member is building a Virtual Disneyland, but the best part is that it includes all of the backstage buildings.

Taser Story

These type of stories always crack me up.
pretty cute really and (loaded with two itsy, bitsy triple-A batteries)
Bogie
I didn't know that the wheel sets on a rail car were called Bogies. There are a lot of different designs.
Some of them are pretty high tech.
Even some Model sites with lots of pictures like this Australian site.
I also thought that a Bogey in Golf was named after Humphrey Bogart, but alas, that is not the case either.

Boat of the Month The New Carrissa

Actually the salvage of the ship that ran aground near Coos Bay Oregon back in 1999 is documented here quite well.

WikiMapia

This is even better than GoogleMaps.
It shows locations of mundane things like restaurants, stores and parks.
Anybody can add a location, but I am not sure how items get approved, or removed if incorrect.
I knew there there were Missile Silos out in the midwest, but I had no idea that there were so many around Southern California.
Many former sites are indicated in WikiMapia like this one.
Links to websites like the Ft MacArthur Museum.
Ah a little research reveals that the Nike sites were for Surface to air defense.

The Beauty of Math
1 x 8 + 1 = 9
12 x 8 + 2 = 98
123 x 8 + 3 = 987
1234 x 8 + 4 = 9876
12345 x 8 + 5 = 98765
123456 x 8 + 6 = 987654
1234567 x 8 + 7 = 9876543
12345678 x 8 + 8 = 98765432
123456789 x 8 + 9 = 987654321
1 x 9 + 2 = 11
12 x 9 + 3 = 111
123 x 9 + 4 = 1111
1234 x 9 + 5 = 11111
12345 x 9 + 6 = 111111
123456 x 9 + 7 = 1111111
1234567 x 9 + 8 = 11111111
12345678 x 9 + 9 = 111111111
123456789 x 9 +10= 1111111111
9 x 9 + 7 = 88
98 x 9 + 6 = 888
987 x 9 + 5 = 8888
9876 x 9 + 4 = 88888
98765 x 9 + 3 = 888888
987654 x 9 + 2 = 8888888
9876543 x 9 + 1 = 88888888
98765432 x 9 + 0 = 888888888
Brilliant, isn’t it?
And finally, take a look at this symphony:
1 x 1 = 1
11 x 11 = 121
111 x 111 = 12321
1111 x 1111 = 1234321
11111 x 11111 = 123454321
111111 x 111111 = 12345654321
1111111 x 1111111 = 1234567654321
11111111 x 11111111 = 123456787654321
111111111 x 111111111=12345678987654321

High Points

Here are the Highest points in the U.S. by State.
I always knew that Mt Whitney is the highest point in the 48 contiguous states, but there are quite a few states that are close 2nd.
The graph really does show how much higher Mt. McKinley is than all of the rest.
I got the info Here.
Facts of Life
I always wonder what new technology that I am falling behind on?
I don't have a Facebook account, LinkedIn, nor a MySpace.

I still like that tune.

Boat of the Month
I really like this more than the 2008 Corvette Limited Edition Sport-V boat.
The Water car looks to be faster on the water, though I am sure that it's not, but you can drive it off the ramp.

Train of the Month

When I was a very young child we took a train ride back to St Louis from Anaheim (Los Angeles)
I was about 7, or 8, but I vividly remember riding in the Dome car.
Here is a site that has some great pictures from those days.
They use the body of a train for shops at Disney's California Adventure Theme park.

What was That? I couldn't hear you!
I don't hate Harley's.
I love Custom Bikes.
American Chopper is one of my favorite shows.
I can't stand the way that so many people put the stupid straight pipes on their Harley's, and then insist on revving them incessantly.
Here is a fantastic post on what is wrong with the Harley mystique.
I can't agree with everything he says, but it is a great article.
I think I'm gonna take the Mini Van down to Cooks Corner and straighten out a few guys this weekend. Wish me luck :-)
Loud Boom box, Loud Bike, Loud Boat, maybe your overcompensating?
P.S. the Harley pictured may well have mufflers in the tailpipe.

YahooLogo

Yahoo is following Google's lead in customizing the logo.
Right now they have a back to school logo.
If you click on it, the link goes to their back to school guide, so it is completely self promoting, but I like it anyway.
At the time of this post, Google's logo is standard.

What day of the Week was that?
Ever want to figure out what day of the week a certain day was, or what day of the week a date in the future will be?Want to do it in your head?
You need the Doomsday Algorithm.
I wish that I could calculate it faster, but I think that I've got it down well enough to figure out for this year, maybe the next couple.
Cool way to impress your friends, or win a buck at the local watering hole.
