20 Years Later

The worlds worst Nuclear accident happened 20 years ago in Chernobyl.

There's got to be a better way.

Elena has a haunting website dedicated to a motorcycle trip through the affected countryside.

While what she writes about the place is accurate, Elena was a driven-in tourist, on a on a guided tour. (Chernobyl apparently now ranks as a tourist destination.)

There is. Use an American reactor.
We all shudder to hear "3 Mile Island." But, that reactor did what it was supposed to: shut down safely to avoid meltdown.

At the Chernobyl reactor, they bypassed or ignored critical safety equipment. The Russians didn't seem to have much reguard for personnel safety.

We are good, but we still are human.
One mistake, and you can make a pretty large area inhabitable for a very long time.
The risk is just not worth the reward.
